let's bring your website to life

Custom sites

Built entirely based off your designs, fresh and new each and every time.  I pride myself on creating websites that match static mockups and add a touch of life through entrance movements and user-interactions.  You design it and I’ll bring it to life.

What you get

A super rad, fully functional WordPress website for your client – built to your unique design specifications.  Completely customised using the best technologies and tools out there.  You get a friendly developer on your team to collaborate and create with.

The Process / How it Works

To Start

You tell me a bit about the client and their business and then we work together to create a sitemap, with notes about functionality.  This gives us an outline of which pages are to be included, an idea of blog and product categories (if necessary) and what special stuff the site needs to be able to do and show off.

Step Two

We chat about our calendars and the client’s timeline.  You then receive a formal estimate via email made out to you.  If the site is complicated I’ll also attach a brief detailing the extra special stuff included. Plus you’ll get a simple contract covering the nitty gritty details to protect us both from the dreaded nightmare client we both know is out there.

Step Three

A deposit is paid to secure the spot in my calendar.  We work on a timeline together of when the final signed-off designs and content will be sent to me, when I will begin the build, when you see the first look and when the shiny new site will go live.  I create shared Google calendar entries for the project to keep us on track.

Step Four

I’m here to help as a sounding board, advisor and collaborator.  We can work together to come up with the best names for the blog categories, to figure out the prime way for the menu to behave on scroll or the individual page structures that best convert.  I’m on your team to create the raddest site possible!

BONUS: I’ll give you a useful questionnaire for your clients to complete to help them write their copy (often a stumbling block and the thing that’s most likely to cause delays).

Step Five

One day after build starts you’ll get a link to the dev site.  I start with the home page, header and footer.  You take a look and give me feedback about spacing and font sizes and stuff.  We work together the next day to tweak the home page so that it looks perfect.  Then I roll out the rest of the site over the next week and you can check in at any time using the link.

Step Six

Once the site is finished (between one to three weeks after build starts) and we’re happy with how it looks and works then you send the link on to your client for final approval.  Minor changes and tweaks are made from feedback sent to me.  We’ll work together to remind difficult clients that they can’t change their minds about design and content at this late stage.

Step Seven

Website goes live!  I migrate the site over to it’s permanent home on the internet and make sure all is working as it should.  Basic SEO is added to each page to make Google love it and we sit back to admire our work and have a well-deserved mojito and/or nap.

Step Eight

I send through links to instructional videos of how to add new blog posts or portfolio items (using the unique templates I have created on the site), and add products to their shop.  Giving the client the power to make necessary edits to their own site going forward.

Step Nine

My final invoice is paid and I add the client as a user to the site with full access to edit it as they please.  If they break it within the first week of access then I roll back to a backup from launch day free of charge.

Step Ten

We all live happily ever after.

Working with Amy has been invaluable to me and my clients!

We have collaborated on numerous projects where I design the front-end of the site and she creates all the magic on the back-end, and I have always been more than impressed with the way she brings my designs to life with her incredible development skills!  She is an intuitive and creative website developer – a rare and lethal combination.  Amy consistently makes sure that websites look great and maintain their integrity on both desktop and mobile.  It has been a joy working with her as no task is ever too much!

Frequently asked questions

Yes, of course!  All the sites I make look great on tablet and mobile.  I adjust your design to work for different device sizes and ask for feedback from you to ensure that the design maintains it’s integrity and expresses the site personality accurately.  You can even design the site for mobile as well if you like (or only for mobile if you want to be ahead of the curve).

I only talk to your client at the end of the project when it comes time for handover (and I copy you in on all communication).  You get to maintain the primary relationship with your client and remain the main point of contact throughout the process.  You work with your client and I work with you.

They sure can!  Once the site is live I send links to tutorial videos showing clients how to do the basics.  They then also have access to more tutorial videos with instructions for higher level changes and additions.  It’s important to note that if the site design is very complicated then major changes will most likely be beyond them and will require expert help.

Yes, I do.  For the first week after the site is live I am available to restore the site to a backup from the day it went live.  I can also answer questions and provide any hep they may need.  After that first week all help, edits and restoration will be charged for at a full hourly rate, unless they have selected a monthly maintenance package.

Yes, I do.  I can also give advice on other hosting options for those special clients that need very active 24/7 support 🙂

We can totally work within the client’s budget.  But instead of us offering enormous discounts, we adjust the client’s expectations and create a site within their budget.  So instead of a 25 page ecommerce site with a portfolio that clicks through to 23 items and a blog with 76 posts and fifty million contact forms; they should consider a more simple site to start with.

We can even talk about my template-based system for those clients with very limited budgets.  So they don’t get a completely bespoke site, but rather a site unique to them in branding, colours and images on a more generic template for layout and functionality.  A template which we can create together and reuse for future budget-friendly sites.  They won’t even be able to spot the template in the wild on other sites unless they possess that designer eagle-eye like us.

A website is an essential aspect of a brand and I will work with you to ensure that you are still in charge of the website process, even if the client doesn’t really have the budget for it.  We don’t want to see an ugly site that craps all over the gorgeous brand you have just worked so hard to create.

I have some template websites that can be purchased and used to bring the costs of the site down.  If we work together enough, then we can collaborate on a couple of templates that will be used for your clients only.

Populating a template means less time for both you and I on each site, so we can charge much less for the website component of their fancy new brand.

Yebo yes.  Copywriting, SEO powerups, monthly website maintenance plans, Mailchimp setup and management, and some other stuff to boost business marketing.

Pop me an email and let’s chat about how I can help you.

Wow, what a question!  How dare you put me on the spot like that.

I would say my top picks for re-watching are (in no particular order):

  • Bob’s Burgers
  • Brooklyn Nine-Nine
  • Star Trek The Next Generation
  • The Office (US)
  • Rick and Morty
  • Gravity Falls
  • Blue Planet
  • My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
  • Archer
  • Glee
  • Star Trek Voyager
  • Kim’s Convenience

Favourite series with less re-watching potential:

  • Stranger Things
  • Masterchef Australia
  • Nailed It!
  • Jessica Jones
  • Jane the Virgin

I fucking love putting on series in the background and working!

I only work with clients that have just gone through a fresh branding or brand guidance process.  So if clients approach me directly, I always get in touch with the designer that worked on their brand.  That way we can work together on the site to ensure it speaks to the right audience and expresses the brand properly.

If a client has not recently been through branding, then I will refer them to a designer that I work with closely and that best fits their vibe.  If their budget really really doesn’t allow the whole process, then I will direct them to one of my DIY templates.

A shiny new website and brand clarity go hand-in-hand and I will not create the one without the other.

Yes, I do.  But only if certain conditions are met and if I have the time.

We can use a template and fill it with the client’s content that is ready and good to go right now.   And I mean right now – no time for a “quick” photoshoot, nor the classic “but I just need to decide on my prices” nor anything other proviso or quid pro quo.  I can also help by editing the copy from a previous site to fit with the new branding and target market to move things along more quickly.

The extra help will incur extra costs plus a premium rush fee will be applied to the project, but we can totes do it.
